一九五八年的《开罗车站》（Cairo Station）是夏因其中一部早期经典，不过该片比时代先行，上映时被观众喝倒釆，同时也因对性及社会问题的描写而被禁足足有十二年。后来重见天日，广泛被推崇为最重要的阿拉伯电影之一。 夏因上阵自导自演，演活了一个卖报卫生的开罗小男人。化身成埃及版差利，闲时喜欢将杂质上的美女照片剪下来贴满他的车站小屋内，又爱上了在附近买柠檬水的惹火尤物。但通俗剧的形式，最终以小男人死于非命的反通俗剧结束，而他眼中的神圣不可侵犯的惹火尤物只不过是另一个男人的财物。 《开罗车站》被评为最先将新写实主义引进歌舞片充斥的埃及电影世界的作品。导演对埃及的性别政治以及不优良传统的关注和批判，已在此片尽露端倪。
