　　纽约剧作家伊凡写了一出舞台剧，正筹划公演，忙得焦头烂额之际，他原本和乐的家庭，也起了变化，他老婆葛洛莉又出外不归，把她和前三任老公生的二女二男，外加伊凡的一子伊吉，全扔在家里不顾，伊凡几经交涉，发现葛洛莉的老毛病又犯了，结一次婚安份个二三年，便又要另找男人外遇，然后离婚，周而复始…然而可怜的是孩子，伊凡虽然很疼爱孩子，但他一人无法照五个半大不小的孩子，只好把其中几个送回和他们的生父一起生活…
　　但孩子们最后还是逃了回来，坚持要和伊凡一起住，即使没有妈妈，他们也要自立自强活下去…
