影片改编自美国科幻恐怖小说家、剧作家理查德·马西森（Richard Matheson；1926年2月20日~）出版于1953年的小说《流血的人》（Someone is Bleeding）。
尼斯的冬季。编剧弗朗索瓦François（克洛德·布拉瑟尔饰）正在创作一个新的电视剧本，但他却无法集中精力，因为他不止一次注意到一个神情忧伤的年轻金发女郎佩吉Peggy（米蕾叶·达尔克饰）在沙滩上踱步。于是好奇转化成喜欢，弗朗索瓦决定接触她。而职业敏感又让他对佩吉孤独背后的原因发生了兴趣。不久，佩吉唯一的朋友、律师马克Marc（阿兰·德隆饰）告诉他，佩吉是个首要犯罪嫌疑人，她曾于两年前为了吸毒不得不卖淫，并且杀死了她的丈夫......
