　　影片改编自当今美国著名小说家约翰·格里沙姆(John Grisham)的畅销作品《逃离圣诞》(Skipping Christmas)。故事描写一对美国夫妇，路德·克拉克(蒂姆o艾伦饰)与诺拉(杰米·李·柯蒂斯饰)在圣诞节前夕作出了一个“惊人”的决定--今年不过圣诞节。他们打算在圣诞期间去加勒比海旅游。这样一来，不但能痛痛快快地享受久违的二人世界，同时还能节省一年一度“无聊透顶”的节日开支。

　　  然而，此举立刻招致亲朋好友甚至邻居们的非议。一个小小的改变竟然引来如此巨大的社会反响完全出乎路德和诺拉的预料。他们不得不面对来自各方面的压力，其间自然发生了许多不可思议的笑料。就在克拉克夫妇迷惑之际，他们的宝贝女儿布莱尔(茱丽·贡泽罗饰)突然告知父母她将回家过圣诞节……一心一意向往逃离圣诞的路德和诺拉不得不再次面对“郁闷的”节日。
